After a commercially challenging start to the year, the Dacia Sandero caught its breath and returned to lead the ranking of registrations in the European market. The hatch closed the month of April 2026 with 19,305 units sold, which represents a slight growth of 2.3% compared to the same period of the previous year, thus ensuring the absolute top of the sales list on the continent.

The result marks a strong recovery for the model, which shares a platform with our Renault Kardian. During the first quarter, the Sandero — which starts at approximately 13,000 euros (about R$ 75 thousand) — had plummeted to seventh position in the European accumulated, registering a hard retraction of 28.9%. The drop was directly linked to logistical adjustments in the production lines and the manufacturing transition period for the arrival of the new hybrid and bi-fuel engines, powered by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

According to the consultancy Car Industry Analysis, these are results that have a strong relationship with direct sales: according to the data collected, the Sandero would not even be in the top-1 in Europe if only sales to individuals were accounted for — a modality in which the Tesla Model Y stands out.

The dispute for the next positions was also fierce. The second place in April was in the hands of the Peugeot 208, which totaled 17,270 units delivered, followed very closely by the Volkswagen Golf, with 17,139 registrations. The German automaker, by the way, demonstrated resilience by also placing the T-Roc and Tiguan SUVs in the coveted top-10 in April.

Despite maintaining the leadership in the overall cumulative of 2026, the Renault Clio recorded the most worrying performance among the leaders, suffering an 18% retraction in monthly volume. Other models that showed a significant downward bias in sales were the Toyota Yaris Cross and the Peugeot 2008. Completing the ten most popular vehicles of the month are the Opel Corsa hatchback and the Skoda Octavia sedan.

Outside the main peloton, the period was one of strong contrasts. While the Citroën C3 Aircross and the Opel Frontera emerged with a sharp growth curve, traditional vehicles such as the Audi A3, the Dacia Duster and the Jeep Avenger lost volume considerably. Another emblematic case was that of the Tesla Model Y: after leading overall sales in March, the electric plummeted to 39th position in April, although it still sustains a robust annual growth of 63.5%.
