Volvo ends free charging service for electric cars in Brazil

The change takes effect on June 15 and ends the transition that started in 2024, the values include tariffs per kWh and idle rate on highways

Volvo Car Brasil announced the end of free charging for owners of the brand’s vehicles in its own network of charging stations. The change will take effect from June 15. According to the automaker, the initiative marks a new phase of maturity of the national charging infrastructure.

With the new fully paid operating model, the values established by Volvo for the use of its carriers will be as follows:

  • Fast chargers (DC): R$ 2.90 per kWh.
  • Convenience Chargers (AC): R$ 2.00 per kWh.
  • Connectivity Fee: R$ 2.50 fixed per recharge session.
  • Idleness rate: R$ 5.00 per extra minute for vehicles that remain connected after a 15-minute tolerance at highway fast chargers.

The electrification project has received an investment of around R$ 70 million since the inauguration of the first point in September 2022, in Cajati (SP). Currently, the network has 75 fast chargers and more than 140 connectors, covering more than 31 thousand kilometers of highways in the five regions of Brazil.

However, even with the end of the free benefit, the manufacturer will maintain specific technological advantages for those who own a car of the brand through the Volvo Car Electroposto application. Maintaining automatic recognition of the car as soon as it is plugged into the charging station.

In addition, it is possible to block a charging point 20 minutes in advance. Now you can also make an appointment that allows you to reserve a charger up to 24 hours in advance.
