Nissan announced a recall that affects 51,598 units of the Kicks in the United States due to a failure in the digital instrument panel. According to the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), the vehicle’s screen can have random failures – being partially blank, displaying a blue screen or completely erasing shortly after departure. The automaker estimates that the problem affects less than 1% of the units recalled.

So far, the recall does not affect the Kicks sold in Brazil.

Technical cause and diagnosis of the problem

The Japanese manufacturer clarified that the flaw originates in the software. The problem is caused by a communication error between the graphics controller and the integrated circuits of the automotive controller. Tests carried out revealed that the bug triggers an internal error flag that puts the system in a continuous loop , cutting off communication and turning off the display, without any prior warning to the driver.

The investigation began in February 2025, after a field complaint about a Kicks with a blank panel. In the following months, Nissan and supplier Continental collected parts until they identified the fragility in the circuit. Although seven technical reports and 205 warranty requests have been registered, the automaker claims to have no news of accidents or injuries related to the defect.

Affected models and recall solution

The recall involves the 2025 and 2026 models. A definitive correction on the assembly line was already implemented by Nissan in January this year.

For cars that are already on the road, the solution is a free update of the dashboard software, made at dealerships in about 30 minutes. The sending of official notification letters to American owners begins on July 1, 2026, according to the schedule released to the NHTSA.
