Volkswagen took advantage of its sponsorship of Rock in Rio to announce news: in addition to the sale of the VW ID.4 in Brazil, the brand unveiled a new version of the Tera, now with the option of a more powerful turbo engine.
It is the Volkswagen Tera 200 TSI, which uses the 1.0-liter turbocharged engine with 128 hp and 20,4 kgfm. The engine already equips Nivus, T-Cross and Virtus, reaching the subcompact SUV with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 200 TSI will coexist with the turbo that the Tera already has, called 170 TSI. This engine, with 116 hp, will be restricted to the Tera TSI. The 200 TSI, in turn, will equip the more expensive Tera Comfort and Tera High. The Tera MPI — entry-level version — continues with the aspirated 1.0 with 84 hp.
The updated line of the car hits stores in October. VW, however, has not released prices for the Volkswagen Tera 2027. Currently, prices are:
| Version | Engine | Gearbox | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tera MPI | 1.0 aspirated, 84 hp and 10,3 kgfm | Five-speed | BRL 107.190 |

| Tera Comfort (2026 line) | 1.0 turbo 170 TSI, 116 hp and 16,8 kgfm | Six-speed | BRL 133.190 |
| Tera High (2026 line) | 1.0 turbo 170 TSI, 116 hp and 16,8 kgfm | Six-speed | BRL 146.190 |
| Tera Comfort 200 TSI (2027 line) | 1.0 turbo 200 TSI, 128 hp and 20,4 kgfm | Eight-speed | TBD |
| Tera High 200 TSI (2027 line) | 1.0 turbo 200 TSI, 128 hp and 20,4 kgfm | Eight-speed | TBD |

The mechanical novelties
The 1.0 turbo three-cylinder called by VW the 200 TSI already equips the Nivus, the T-Cross — in the Sense 200 TSI, 200 TSI and Comfortline versions — and the Virtus, in the Comfortline and Highline configurations. The Polo, in turn, works with the 170 TSI.
The Tera’s two turbo engines are the same 1.0-liter three-cylinder EA211 family, produced in São Carlos (SP). What changes is the calibration of parameters such as turbo pressure and electronic management. The numbers in the acronym do not indicate power or displacement, but torque in Newton-meter — 165 Nm in the 170 TSI and 200 Nm in the 200 TSI, or 16,8 kgfm and 20,4 kgfm.
The eight-speed automatic transmission is the Aisin AQ300, the same one the brand already uses in the T-Cross 2027 and Taos. According to Volkswagen, the well-distributed ratios keep the engine in the proper operating range, with progressive accelerations and lower revs at cruising speed, which increases refinement and acoustic comfort.
The Nivus, which uses the same engine, continues with the six-speed transmission.

What’s in the Comfort and High
versions The list of equipment for the 2027 line has not yet been detailed. In the current line, the Comfort is the gateway to the automatic transmission and features 16-inch alloy wheels, face-to-face key, start-stop system, 8″ digital panel, 10.1″ VW Play center, six airbags, LED headlights, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.
The High adds 17-inch wheels, 10.25″ digital panel, Climatronic digital air conditioning, synthetic seats, six speakers, induction cell phone charger, reversing camera and front parking sensors. It is the only version that can receive the ADAS package, with lane keeping assistant, blind spot detector, parking exit assistant and multifunction camera.
