Electric compact may be the car that will make the brand take off in Brazil and has even had national production confirmed
The MG4 Urban is an electric car that is confirmed to be sold in Brazil and is surrounded by expectations. It was highly praised in other markets and now we know that it will be produced under the SKD regime at the Pace plant in Ceará, which helps to reduce taxes.
MG Motor is now owned by SAIC, China’s largest state-owned car manufacturer. Despite all this power in its homeland, it still has discreet sales in Brazil because it started operations with more sophisticated models.

The MG4 Urban is the second generation of the MG4, bringing larger size and some technical changes. Despite this, it will be positioned below the model we already have on the market.
The biggest difference is using a more efficient platform made to have front-wheel drive and a battery integrated into the bodywork. The first generation was heavier and had rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, it will continue as a sportier option.
The MG4 Urban has already been approved by Inmetro, so we can anticipate what the versions and autonomy of the model will be. The table includes two batteries, one of 43 kWh and the other of 54 kWh. Both are offered in Comfort and Luxury versions.

Within Inmetro’s standardized cycle, the MG4 Urban, with a 43 kWh battery, has a range of 299 km. The 54 kWh model can run up to 358 kWh within this methodology.
This will be the biggest advantage of the MG4 Urban in our segment, if it is well priced. The smaller battery version already outperforms the Geely EX2, the BYD Dolphin SE, the Chevrolet Spark EUV and the GAC Aion UT. With the 54 kWh battery, it surpasses the GWM Ora 03 and is second only to the MG4 Comfort.
The MG4’s engine also outperforms most rivals, it delivers 163 hp and 25,5 kgfm. Only the Ora 03, the Aion UT and the Dolphin SE surpass this value.
This set offers good attributes to make MG Motor take off in Brazil. The most determining factor for this will be the price.
