Impressions: Jetour T2 4×4 focuses on severe off-road

Jetour’s XWD 4×4 version expands the T2 range with the top-of-the-line Chinese plug-in hybrid SUV. It serves a well-defined market share. While 90% of adventurous-looking SUV sales focus on 4×2 configurations for urban and on-highway use, about 10% of buyers demand real capability to overcome difficult terrain.

The biggest evolution is in the mechanical set. To the 1.5 L turbocharged petrol engine and two front electric motors, the XWD adds a third electric motor on the rear axle. The integrated system develops 597 hp and no less than 91,7 kgfm of torque. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 s, despite its impressive mass of 2,362 kg. The 43.24 kW⋅h battery ensures up to 106 km of range in 100% electric mode and a combined range of up to 1,300 km. Supports direct current (DC) fast charging.

For off-road, the SUV adopts intelligent all-wheel drive, electronic rear differential lock and eight driving modes. Highlights include the Tank Turn (reduction of the turning circle in maneuvers by automatic braking of the rear wheel inside the curve) and the Crawl Mode (automatic management of acceleration and braking at low speed). The chassis received reinforced protections for the battery and mechanical organs, as well as greater ground clearance and wading capacity.

On the road route from São Paulo to Bragança Paulista, it stood out for the imperceptible transition between engines and for the refinement of the road. Retakes are vigorous and stability impeccable for its size. On the off-road circuit – under mud, erosion and lateral slopes – the electronic torque distribution acted quickly, when two diagonally opposed wheels lose contact with the ground.
