Summons that involves 800 thousand vehicles is due to structural failure, due to accelerated corrosion, which can compromise the rear suspension
Honda announced a recall of approximately 880 vehicles in the United States after identifying a possible structural problem that could compromise the rear suspension. According to information released by the automaker and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the failure is related to premature corrosion of the rear structure in certain models.

The defect affects units of the Honda Pilot, Passport and Ridgeline pickup, in addition to the Acura MDX SUV. According to the investigation, an inadequate specification of the protective coating can allow rust to appear on rear suspension attachment points. In more severe cases, corrosion can compromise the structural integrity of the region and cause loss of control of the vehicle.

The campaign involves vehicles produced between 2014 and 2023, sold mainly in US states subject to heavy salt use on roads during the winter. Honda estimates that only a small portion of vehicles actually have the problem, but decided to carry out the recall preventively.
As a solution, the concessionaires will carry out free inspections and install structural reinforcements in the affected region. If more severe damage is found, components of the rear structure can be repaired or replaced at no cost to the owners. Notifications to customers begin to be sent in July.
