New "Sport Cabriolet" convertible variant rescues the spirit of the Speedster model, but without limitation of production volume
Porsche has unveiled the new 911 GT3 S/C, a convertible variant that prioritizes the purist outdoor driving experience. The model introduces the nomenclature “Sport Cabriolet” and differs from historic editions, such as the 911 Speedster, by not having a limited production volume. The strategy aims to make the high-performance configuration more accessible to the German manufacturer’s regular market.
The sports car uses the structure of the 911 GT3 as a basis, keeping the focus on weight reduction and dynamic precision. With the extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) in components such as doors and hood, the vehicle weighs 1,508 kg. The mark is considered low for a convertible equipped with an automatic top system, bringing its agility closer to that of the hardtop versions.

Under the hood, the GT3 S/C is equipped with the 4.0-liter naturally aspirated six-cylinder boxer engine, capable of delivering 502 hp and 45,8 kgfm. The set allows the driver to reach 9,000 rpm, operated exclusively by a six-speed manual transmission with short ratios. According to Frank Moser, vice president of the 911 and 718 lines, the project meets a growing demand for vehicles that prioritize the pleasure of driving on winding roads.
The model’s engineering incorporates technical solutions from the 911 S/T, including ceramic brakes (PCCB) as standard and a suspension calibration with double wishbones overlapping at the front. The interior can be configured with carbon fiber bucket seats, reinforcing the low weight proposal. The global launch is scheduled for the end of this year, with a starting price set at US$ 275,350 (about R$ 1,4 million in direct conversion), positioning the S/C as one of the most exclusive options in the current 911 line.
