With a "square" look and a focus on young people, the Jetta X marks the Chinese subsidiary's transition to new energy vehicles
In the Chinese market, Volkswagen has operated Jetta as an independent subsidiary brand since 2019, focused on low-cost vehicles. During the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, the brand unveiled the Jetta X concept, a new all-electric SUV that signals a new aesthetic and technological direction for the brand.

The Jetta X anticipates the brand’s expansion into the New Energy Vehicles segment, with the goal of launching four new electrified models by 2028. The SUV features a more “square” and imposing look, adopting the Modern Robust design language.

The front is marked by narrow LED headlights and an illuminated logo, while the bumper integrates “X” elements and red tow hooks. On the sides, the model features pronounced fenders with trapezoidal arches and a floating roof. The interior follows the minimalist trend, with the dashboard dominated by digital screens and AI assistant. The model will use the new CEA electronic architecture, developed locally to support over-the-air updates.
In addition to the Jetta brand, Volkswagen presented unprecedented models through its joint ventures, the ID. Unyx 09, which was developed in partnership with XPeng. This luxury electric sedan draws attention for its fluid design and advanced level 2 assistance systems.

Also presented was the ID. Aura T6, a medium electric SUV from FAW-Volkswagen focused on families. Unlike the Unyx, it uses the intelligent CoreDrive architecture and has LiDAR radar on the roof for enhanced autonomous driving.

The strategy for launching the novelties reflects VW’s need to defend its share in a market dominated by affordable local electric vehicles. Despite the attractive design and robustness of the Jetta X, there is no forecast that the brand will be exported outside China, remaining a strategic exclusivity for the world’s largest automotive market.
