Foxconn has included Brazil in its global expansion plan for the electric car sector. The Taiwanese giant, known worldwide for assembling iPhones for Apple, is looking for local partners to enable the production and marketing of electric vehicles under the contract manufacturing business model.

During the 360° Mobility Mega Show event in Taipei, the group’s spokesman, James Wu, detailed to AutoData Agency the strategy based on the CDMS (Contract, Design and Manufacturing Services) concept. Unlike traditional automakers, Foxconn does not intend to establish its own dealership network, but rather to offer industrial support and technological platforms for other companies to sell their vehicles. “If we have customers in Brazil, we are open to it,” said the executive.

The Brazilian offensive is supported by the group’s previous presence in the country. With technology-focused operations in Jundiaí (SP), Foxconn evaluates that the logistics and manufacturing knowledge already installed facilitates the transition to the automotive segment. The idea is to position the country as an export hub for Latin America, using the Foxtron brand as a base for the development of new electrification projects.

The strategy of the Hon Hai group, Foxconn’s parent company, focuses on reducing the cost and development time for automakers facing difficulties in the energy transition. Currently, the company has more than 200 factories in 24 countries, concentrating the development of batteries and semiconductors in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In Brazil, the success of the operation will depend on the adhesion of “anchor customers” who are looking for an electric platform ready to be customized and produced on a national scale.
