Code discovered in the app reveals that drivers will be able to use the "Ask Maps" function to answer complex questions about destinations on the dashboard
Google Maps is about to make the navigation experience in Apple CarPlay significantly more advanced. A recent analysis of the app’s codes, carried out by the specialized portal MacRumors, revealed that Google plans to integrate its artificial intelligence, Gemini, directly into Apple’s automotive interface. Although the assistant already operates in the iPhone version of the app, its absence in the vehicles’ multimedia centers restricted drivers to basic and predefined voice commands.
The main novelty of this integration is the arrival of the “Ask Maps” feature to the car’s dashboard. Instead of just entering an address, the driver will have a more conversational and consultative interaction. It will be possible, for example, to ask complex, real-world-based questions about locations and destinations before even starting the route, greatly extending the usefulness of the navigation system.

The change reflects an important update to Apple’s software policy. In recent versions of the iOS operating system, the iPhone maker has started to allow voice-based conversational applications, developed by third parties, to interact natively with CarPlay. This technological openness is exactly what makes it possible to incorporate the Gemini into the driver’s commands.
By agreeing to the new terms of service in the mobile app, the user will unlock the functionality in the vehicle. Although the official release date has not been announced, the presence of the structural code suggests an imminent release. The initiative consolidates the industry’s trend of transforming cars into intelligent assistants, where navigation is no longer just directional to actively understand the context of the trip and the needs of those behind the wheel.
