Six years after ending production of the Fusion in the United States, Ford remains convinced that abandoning sedans was the right decision. The strategy, adopted after the withdrawal of models such as Fiesta, Focus and Fusion from the North American market, allowed the manufacturer to concentrate investments in segments considered more profitable and in line with consumer demand.

In an interview with Automotive News, Andrew Frick, head of the Ford Blue and Model e divisions, said that the resources previously allocated to passenger cars helped make models such as the Bronco, Bronco Sport, Maverick and the Tremor and Raptor versions viable.

Maverick, for example, recorded its best sales performance in 2025, with just over 155 thousand units sold in the United States. Currently, its main competitor is the Hyundai Santa Cruz, which is expected to be discontinued to make way for a new product. Despite the expressive result last year, sales of the pickup fell 11.7% in the first five months of this year.

Although it continues to defend the exit of sedans from its North American lineup, Ford does not rule out returning to operate in the segment. With the increase in demand for more affordable vehicles and the recovery of the popularity of sedans in some markets, the automaker is considering expanding the Mustang family.

Among the possibilities studied is the launch of a four-door version of the Ford Mustang, expanding the brand’s reach for consumers looking for more practicality without giving up the model’s sporty identity.
