Renault has expanded the options of its new electric hatch with the launch of the Renault 4 E-Tech Plein Sud. The new variant of the compact car rescues the spirit of freedom of the classic 4L Plein Air, from 1968, by bringing a canvas roof with electric drive, focusing on an outdoor experience without giving up contemporary technology.

Already available for order in Europe in Techno and Iconic versions, the model has prices starting at € 37,290 (about R$ 215 thousand, in direct conversion) and € 39,290 (R$ 226 thousand), respectively, before government incentives.

The protagonist of the new version is the canvas ceiling “Plein Sud”. Designed to preserve cabin space, it offers an opening of 92 cm long by 80 cm wide, ensuring that rear seat occupants also enjoy the view. The soft top can be activated by a physical button, the key or voice commands integrated into the vehicle’s virtual assistant.

To ensure acoustic comfort, the canvas has improved insulation and a lightweight structure, with plastic components instead of metal. The mechanism folds into three parts and acts in conjunction with an air deflector, minimising noise with the roof open.

The debut of Plein Sud also marks the arrival of new technologies to the entire 4 E-Tech line. The package now includes driver monitoring by internal camera — which detects fatigue — and emergency stop assistant, capable of immobilizing the car if the driver does not respond. The predictive driving system now crosses GPS data to anticipate curves, suggesting throttle relief to regenerate energy. The brand will also offer 2 GB of data per month for three years for streaming use.

In the field of efficiency, Renault has installed a new heat exchanger in the battery. The component optimizes thermal conditioning: under extreme cold, the fast recharge time from 15% to 80% has dropped from 1h45 to up to 55 minutes.
