BYD's new luxury SUV bets on a range of 950 km, ultra-fast charging and a lot of technology to seek global leadership
BYD, the Chinese giant that recently surpassed Tesla in global sales volume of purely electric vehicles, presented its new top-of-the-line SUV, the Great Tang. The model registered more than 30 thousand pre-orders in just 24 hours, signaling a strong market acceptance for the brand’s new luxury proposal.
In the purely electric configuration, equipped with two motors and all-wheel drive, the utility delivers 795 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. The estimated range in the Chinese cycle (CLTC) reaches 950 km. Among the main technical attractions is the ultra-fast charging system, with a rate of 10C and a current of up to 1000A, which drastically reduces the waiting time at high voltage stations.

The range also offers high-efficiency plug-in hybrid variants. The DM-i system combines a 1.5 turbo engine with a 408 hp electric unit, prioritizing consumption. The DM-p variant uses two electric motors that add up to 544 hp and 77.5 kgfm, allowing it to accelerate to 100 km/h in 4.3 seconds. Both use the new generation of the Blade battery, with structural and thermal management improvements.
In the chassis set, the SUV incorporates DiSus-A air suspension and a steering system on the rear wheels, resulting in a turning radius of only 5.2 meters — unusual agility for the size of the vehicle. The cabin follows the standard of sophistication with Lidar assistance, 3 nm processors and a Devialet sound system with 27 speakers.

The verticalization of production — which includes batteries, semiconductors and its own motors — allows BYD to maintain competitive prices even in highly complex models. With initial demand exceeding projections, Great Tang consolidates itself as a key piece in the brand’s strategy to dominate the global luxury segment.
