Luiz Alberto Veiga was the father of the Gol Bolinha, Polo Sedan and several other national projects, but his darling is still the Fox
The Volkswagen Fox was one of the German brand’s most celebrated national projects. It was a hatch with some minivan elements, to expand the interior space, and its design was signed by Luiz Alberto Veiga.
The car was so well aesthetically resolved that it caught the attention of the German headquarters. But despite its beauty, the Fox was not a success in Europe. In Brazil it was produced until 2022 and gained several updates.

Designer Luiz Alberto Veiga reimagined what the Fox would look like today, with Volkswagen’s new visual language that is in the ID.Polo. He affectionately calls the compact “my darling”.
Three proposals were made, the first follows more the original proportions, with column A more inclined. It’s a design that could be fitted into the current lineup as a successor to the Up and positioned below the Polo.
Veiga also proposed a concept closer to a volume, where the hood follows the inclination of the windshield. This style was used by the first Mercedes-Benz A-Class.

The final proposal was called a cube, even closer to a van and reminiscent of Japanese kei cars . This also refers to several urban car concepts where the focus is on the use of internal space.
Unfortunately Luiz Alberto Veiga is retired and these concepts are just exercises of imagination. Volkswagen currently does not plan cars below the Polo.
The Volkswagen Fox was produced in Brazil from 2003 to 2021 at the plants in São José dos Pinhais (PR) and São Bernardo do Campo (SP). It was also made in Argentina in some versions, such as the 1.6 diesel and the SpaceFox station wagon.
Despite being born as a successor to the Gol, the Fox never managed to actually retire the compact veteran. It ended up being repositioned as a superior model with face-lifts, in the last update it even offered a 1.6 16v engine, six-speed gearbox and sunroof in the top-of-the-line version.
