Uber Woman: understand what the new function is and how to use it throughout Brazil
The company expanded a tool that has three modalities to balance waiting time and user preference

Uber announced the national expansion of the Uber Mulher tool, a feature that allows users of the app to choose or prioritize trips with female drivers. The resource, which has gone through testing phases and gradual implementation in the capitals, is now available to the female public in any city in the country.
The initiative aims to offer more comfort and safety for women passengers and non-binary people, meeting a recurring demand from the female public in Brazil.

What is Uber Mulher and how does it work?
The feature was structured in three different formats to balance the preference of users with the availability of drivers in the regions, preventing the waiting time from being too long. Uber points out that the availability of the modalities can be adjusted according to the supply and demand of each municipality.
The three options available in the app are:
- Book Uber Woman: Aimed at trips scheduled through the Uber Reserve feature. Allows the user to select the option at least 30 minutes in advance.
- Women’s Preference: Enabled directly in the app settings (Profile > Travel Preferences). By turning on this option, the system automatically prioritizes a female driver in requests in the UberX category. If the wait becomes too long due to the shortage of partners in the region, the app automatically redirects the trip to the nearest male driver.
- Uber Woman (Immediate Rides): option appears directly on the home screen for real-time requests, being active only during the day. By selecting her, the app tries to pair the ride with a female driver. If the estimated waiting time is too high, the app asks the user if she wants to continue waiting or if she prefers to redirect the call to the nearest driver.
Uber Mulher’s implementation history and the Young public
Uber Mulher started testing in October 2025 in seven pilot cities: Piracicaba (SP), Uberlândia (MG), Curitiba (PR), Campinas (SP), São José dos Campos (SP), Ribeirão Preto (SP) and Campo Grande (MS). Later, it expanded to 13 Brazilian capitals — including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte, Brasília and Salvador — until it reached the current national scale.
The tool was also integrated with Uber Conta Teens, a modality aimed at teenagers aged 12 to 17. With this, parents can monitor the trips of young people in real time, with the safety features automatically activated.
Increase in female drivers in Brazil
Uber has been investing in expanding its driver base since 2019, when it launched U-Elas — a tool that allows partner drivers to tune into the app to receive calls exclusively from female passengers.
Although the base of female drivers has grown by 160% in recent years, they still represent only 8% of the platform’s total partners in Brazil. The restricted number explains the need for flexibility in Uber Mulher’s service formats to avoid the blocking of the call system.
99Women are a similar initiative
Uber’s move follows a market trend focused on female safety. Competitor 99 already operates with the 99Mulher function, a button activated by partner drivers to increase the priority in receiving passengers.
The competing platform also has features such as route sharing with safety contacts, audio recording of rides and an emergency button.
