The GWM Ora 5 was launched in Brazil with a promotional price of R$ 159 thousand. The brand did not inform how long this value will remain, but it represents a discount of R$ 10 thousand on the list price.

The Ora 5 is 100% electric (BEV) and classified by the brand as an SUV, although, strictly speaking, it has more characteristics of a crossover — a model that adds elements of various styles. It does not replace the Ora 03, which continues to be sold under promotional conditions.

GWM’s expectation is that the Ora 5 will finally take the automaker out of the condition of protagonist in the electric car segment. The brand, which has good sales volumes with the Haval H6 hybrid and surprised with the Haval H9, has never been able to place the Ora 03 as an alternative among both EV and combustion hatches.

Room for growth

Prices and size place the model in the most competitive segment of the Brazilian market

Today, according to a survey by GWM, 60% of consumers who bought an electric car are coming from the compact combustion hatchback segment. Another 32% migrate from compact combustion hatches, while 8% are already driving a BEV. And it is with an eye on this intermediate slice of the market that the Chinese automaker believes it will be able to hook interested parties in the Ora 5 and estimates a sale of 1,500 units/month.

GWM Ora 5 Competitors

Within this strategy, brand executives directly place some SUVs from which they want to ‘steal customers’ with the Ora 5.

  • Honda HR-V EX: BRL 166.400
  • Toyota Yaris Cross 1.5 XRE: BRL 161.390
  • VW T-Cross 1.0 TSI: BRL 161.490
  • Chevrolet Tracker 1.0 turbo LTZ: BRL 162.890

In addition to these combustion SUVs, GWM also listed the BYD Dolphin GS (R$ 149.990) and the recently launched Leapmotor B10 (R$ 182.990) as direct competitor models of its new model.

As attractions for the Ora 5, the brand bets on the battery/motor set, the abundant package of standard items and the good standard of interior finish.

V2L system turns the car into a large power bank and allows you to connect electronic devices to the vehicle

The GWM Ora 5 is equipped with a 204 hp electric motor and 26.5 kgfm (260 Nm) torque. The LFP type lithium-ion battery has a capacity of 58.3 kWh and offers a range of 349 km in the Inmetro cycle and 435 km in the WLTP cycle.

In DC fast chargers, with a power of up to 120 kW, it is possible to recharge the battery from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes. In 11 kW/h chargers, from 0% to 100%, the recharge time is approximately 8.5 hours.

The model also offers an adjustable regenerative braking system and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, which allows you to share energy with external equipment with a power of up to 6,000 W.

Interior space

With a length of 4,471 mm, a width of 1,833 mm and a wheelbase of 2,720 mm, the Ora 5 offers ample interior space for up to five occupants. These numbers reveal that the new electric SUV is 236 mm longer in length, 70 mm longer in wheelbase and 8 mm larger in width when compared to its smaller brother, the ORA 03 hatchback.

Despite the larger dimensions, the more modern construction made the Ora 5 reach 1,669 kg in weight – exactly 1 kg less than the Ora 03. In addition, there are 175 mm of ground clearance, 17 degrees of entry angle and 25 degrees of departure angle.

The trunk has a capacity of 362 liters.

Among the convenience items are also the 1.65m² fixed glass panoramic roof with electric curtain, synthetic leatherette seats with ventilation for driver and passenger, electric adjustments, position memory for the driver’s seat, configurable ambient lighting and 3.2-liter air-conditioned compartment. One of the differentials is the spare tire developed exclusively for the Brazilian market.

The multimedia center offers a customizable interface, wireless integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as native GPS with real-time traffic information and three-dimensional viewing. The ORA 5 receives the same system that debuted in the Wey 07 and the new Haval H6, with a customizable menu bar, created especially for the Brazilian market. Complementing the technological package, the SUV features a 10.25-inch Full HD digital instrument panel, customizable by the driver.

The premium audio system with nine speakers, including subwoofer and amplifier, delivers 216 watts of power.
