Mercedes-Maybach unveiled on Tuesday (21) the new generation of the GLS 680, its most luxurious SUV, which debuts for the 2027 lineup with significant changes in design, technology, performance and comfort. Originally launched in 2019, the Mercedes-Maybach GLS arrives updated precisely in the year that Mercedes-Benz celebrates the 140th anniversary of the invention of the automobile and the 105th anniversary of Maybach.
The main novelty is under the hood. The new 4.0-liter V8 biturbo M177 Evo engine, now associated with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, delivers 603 horsepower and 86,67 kgfm of torque. Compared to the previous model, the gain is 53 hp and 12,24 kgfm, providing faster throttle responses without compromising the characteristic refinement of the Maybach division.

In dynamics, the SUV now has Airmatic air suspension as standard, while the E-Active Body Control system remains optional. The set monitors road conditions up to a thousand times per second, individually controlling each wheel to reduce body inclination and increase comfort. In Curve mode, the vehicle can lean up to three degrees into curves, reducing the lateral forces felt by passengers.
Renewed look on the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 2027

The aesthetic changes reinforce the exclusivity of the Mercedes-Maybach GLS 2027. The front has received a new illuminated grille, which now incorporates, for the first time, the illuminated “Maybach” lettering. In some markets, even the traditional Mercedes-Benz star positioned on the hood can be illuminated. The headlights also gained rose gold details and a new interior design.
The 22-inch wheels become standard equipment, while the optional 23-inch wheels feature a curious rolling mechanism that keeps the Mercedes-Benz star always in an upright position, even with the vehicle in motion.
Luxury taken to another level
The interior has also been deeply updated. The highlight is the new MBUX Superscreen, consisting of three 12.3-inch screens on a single glass surface, accompanied by the new generation of the MB operating system. OS. The virtual assistant now uses artificial intelligence with integration with ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing Search and Google Gemini to offer more natural and contextualized answers.

The finish receives new Nappa leather options, wood details and exclusive materials. The front seats now offer vibrating massage, while the Executive rear seats gain, for the first time, a massage function for the calves as well. The Burmester 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos has been upgraded to 15 speakers and a 710-watt amplifier.
Another highlight is the new cabin air filtration system, capable of completely renewing the internal air every 90 seconds, in addition to reinforced acoustic insulation, developed to further reduce external noise.
Availability of the new Mercedes-Maybach GLS
Mercedes-Benz has not yet released the prices of the new line. In the United States, the current model starts at US$ 181,350, and the expectation is that the new GLS 680 will exceed the US$ 185 range when it arrives at dealerships later this year.
Sales initially start in China, while the United States and Europe will receive the SUV at the end of July. Other markets will be served later.
