Fiat confirms Argo X name for its new compact

The name of Fiat’s new hatch has been confirmed: Argo X. The announcement was made this Monday (20) by the president of Stellantis for South America, Herlander Zola. The model will be the brother of the new European Big Panda, but with changes to suit Brazilian tastes.

This name was advanced by journalist Marlos Ney Vidal, from the Autos Segredos portal. Fiat also confirmed that the current generation of the Argo will follow in line, which was also advanced by our colleague and should receive the surname Urban.

According to Herlander Zola, the name Argo X was adopted after Fiat surveys indicated that the public criticized the brand for changing names frequently. This attitude influenced the devaluation of models such as Punto, Bravo, Brava and others.

The Fiat Argo X will be the first product made in Betim (MG) with the CMP modular platform. It will give rise to other models and will be the first of five new cars confirmed by the brand by 2030.

Stellantis allocated the investment of R$ 32 billion to South America, with R$ 14 billion of this amount destined to Betim. The CMP platform will also house two new SUVs and the next generation of the Strada pickup.

Fiat is today the manufacturer that sells the most cars and pickup trucks in Brazil. This branch is also responsible for 40% of the brand’s global sales.

What we know about the Fiat Argo X

Despite being derived from the Fiat Grande Panda, the Argo X will have some differences. The Brazilian model loses the name stamped on the bodywork and will have the brand’s emblem in the center of the grille, in addition to specific changes such as wheel design.

Inside, the environment will be more sober than that of the European model, using the dashboard of the Grizzly SUV — which here will be the success of the Pulse. The model will have a digital panel, six airbags and ADAS package in all versions.

The Autos Segredos portal says that the Argo X will be launched with a 1.0 Firefly aspirated engine and with the 1.0 turbo equipped with the 12-volt mild hybrid system. The latter will have its power reduced to 116 hp, to fit the model into the tax benefits intended for sustainable models.
