Kia entered the competitive midsize pickup truck market with Tasman and brought an aggressive price to disguise the controversial look. The model arrives in Brazil first with the GL version, which was priced at R$ 249.990. Other configurations will come soon.

This price is similar to that charged by the Mitsubishi Triton GLS, Ford Ranger Black 4×2 and the GWM Poer P30 Exclusive. The new Kia Tasman arrived cheaper than rivals such as the Fiat Titano Volcano, Toyota Hilux STD and Chevrolet S10 WT.

The Kia Tasman project is recent, it was launched abroad at the end of 2024. It is the brand’s first medium pickup, which already has a tradition in commercial vehicles and 4×4 SUVs.

Kia went for a more off-road footprint for Tasman. This is highlighted by features such as the immersion capacity of 80 hp, the angle of attack of 28.9°, the departure angle of 25° and the clearance of 23.1 cm.

Another factor where it stands out is in size: it is 5.41 m long, 1.93 m wide, 1.87 m high and 3.27 m wheelbase. It is longer and wider than the leading Toyota Hilux.

The bucket measures 1.51 m long by 1.57 m wide, with a volume of 1,173 liters in the VDA method. The load capacity is 1 ton, as the segment dictates.

Kia Tasman Mechanics

The Kia Tasman follows the traditional concept of the segment, of bringing a ladder-type chassis and rear suspension with leaf springs. The front uses MacPherson, different from the double A used by rivals.

The engine is the 2.2 tube diesel Smartstream, which uses variable geometry tube to improve responses. Power is 210 hp at 3.800 rpm, while torque is 45 kgfm between 1.750 and 2750 rpm.

The transmission is an 8-speed automatic. It works in conjunction with a transfer case with reduced and center differential, which allows it to run on asphalt in automatic 4×4 mode and acts as an all-wheel drive.

To finish the technical part, the Kia Tasman has electric steering assistance and four-wheel disc brakes. It is a set on par with the most recent models in the segment, such as the Ford Ranger and the Mitsubishi Triton.

Equipment of Kia Tasman GL

This GL version of the Kia Tasman is the pickup’s entry model in Brazil, but it is not a spartan vehicle. Its equipment package brings many items that are only seen in rivals with prices above R$ 300 thousand.

Among the highlights we can list the automatic air conditioning with two zones, smartphone charger with two zones, full-LED headlights and taillights, leather-covered steering wheel, alloy wheels and spare tire, digital panel, multimedia center with 12.3-inch screen, front and rear parking sensors, electronic parking brake with auto hold, face-to-face key and reversing camera.

What it lacks and should come in more expensive versions is the ADAS package, seats with synthetic upholstery in Altaica, 360° cameras, 18-inch wheels, electric adjustment and ventilation for the front seats.

The interior of the Kia Tasman is refined and more elegant than the exterior. The front doors have a soft-touch finish on the tops and there are physical buttons for air conditioning and functions related to drivability.

An interesting solution is the 5-inch screen between the instrument panel and the multimedia center, which is used only to configure the air conditioning. That way, the driver doesn’t have to leave the navigation if he needs to change the air conditioning.

After sales

Kia has already launched the Tasman in the Brazilian market with an offer of accessories for customization, including off-road protections, bike racks and snorkels. The warranty is 5 years with no mileage limit.
