In the “Observations” field of the National Driver’s License (CNH), you can find several letters and acronyms responsible for recording the important characteristics of each driver, such as restrictions or specific activities. App drivers, taxi drivers and motorcycle taxi drivers, delivery workers and other professionals, for example, must have the EAR registration on the CNH.

What is EAR on CNH

For those who want to work in the transport sector, the regularization of documents is the first step. One of the main requirements of Brazilian legislation is the inclusion of the EAR (Exerce Atividade Remunerada) observation in the driver’s license. It is an exclusive administrative annotation for the CNH in categories A, AB, B, C, D and E or for the Driving Permit (PPD) in category B.

Paid activity encompasses any action, work or transport service in which the driver receives some financial consideration. Therefore, if you use your vehicle and your license to generate income, registration is indispensable.

This is a mandatory determination established by the Brazilian Traffic Code (CTB) and inspected by the State Traffic Departments (Detrans). In addition to traffic legislation, platforms such as 99 and Uber require the regularized document for the acceptance and maintenance of the active registration of drivers.

How to add the acronym EAR in the license

The application process has been modernized and can be started 100% digitally through the state DMV portal, as long as the driver has prior registration and logs in to the system. See the step by step:

  1. Access the DMV portal: Enter the official website of your state’s DMV. In the license services menu, look for the option “Change of CNH Data” and select the inclusion of “Exercises Remunerated Activity”.
  2. Perform the psychological evaluation: Schedule and attend the appointment at the accredited clinic indicated by the traffic agency to carry out the psychotechnical examination.
  3. Pay the fees: Pay the medical and psychotechnical examination and issuance of the new copy directly in the authorized banking network.
  4. Receive your updated CNH: After passing all exams and clearing the fees, your new CNH containing the EAR observation will be ready in a few days, also available in the digital version (CNH do Brasil).

How much does it cost to include the acronym EAR in the CNH

The inclusion of the term “Exercises Remunerated Activity” requires mandatory exams and the issuance of a new copy of the document. Costs may vary according to the state and the rates established by the Detrans.

In São Paulo, expenses add up:

  • Psychological evaluation (mandatory for EAR): R$ 90.00 (paid directly to the psychologist).
  • Issuance of the Digital CNH: free;
  • Physical CNH (optional): R$ 126.79 (issuance fee) + R$ 11.00 (post office fee)

In Minas Gerais, the values are:

  • Psychotechnical exam (mandatory for EAR): R$ 232.23 (paid at the clinic). If necessary, repeat: R$ 92.87
  • Issuance of CNH: R$ 138.96

It is still important to remember that the validity of the document with the EAR observation remains the same as the driver’s original license.

What are the risks of driving without the EAR registration on the CNH

Transiting with the remunerated transport of goods or people without the driver’s license being properly licensed for this purpose constitutes a traffic violation. As provided for in Article 231 of the CTB:

  • Infraction – very serious (7 points);
