New model is on display with camouflage at Agrishow and will be launched in the coming months with a flex hybrid engine
BYD officially presented its intermediate pickup during Agrishow 2026. The car was shown with matte black camouflage and sealed windows, but it is already possible to observe the lines and get a sense of the size.
According to CNN columnist Jorge Moraes, her name will be Mako, alluding to a species of small and agile shark. This gives a familiarity with the bigger sister Shark.

The BYD Mako is similar in size to the Fiat Toro, measuring about 5 m in length. However, the rear axle is positioned closer to the cabin, leaving almost the entire bucket on the rear overhang.
Its bed appears to be smaller than the Fiat Toro’s as well, but on the other hand the cabin should be more spacious – especially in width. Mako’s starting point is the BYD Song Plus, which is a medium SUV.
The front design follows the version before the face-lift of the SUV, with a large hexagonal grille. But on the Mako it has horizontal friezes to look more robust, instead of the chrome mesh of the Song Plus.

The side design has a stronger crease at the waistline. At the rear door begins another higher one. In the camouflaged car it is possible to notice that there is a division to give the effect of a floating roof.
The rear is very conventional, with vertical taillights that follow the shape of the Shark. They will be united in BYD Mako, following the trend of Chinese cars.
The mechanical set of the Chinese pickup will be plug-in hybrid, Jorge Moares bets that it will already arrive flex. It will have 235 hp and autonomy in the range of 100 km if it follows the one used by the brand’s medium SUVs.
Mako may be more successful than its sister Shark, as the mid-range segment is more receptive to flex and hybrid models. Ford has achieved relative success with the Maverick Hybrid and most of Fiat Toro’s sales are with the 1.3 turbo flex engine.
In addition, many consumers of SUVs and medium sedans are attracted to this type of pickup truck. The BYD Mako is more likely to upset the market than its sister Shark, which continues to sell less than the big Ford F-150.
