The initiative is part of the Finep Inovacred program – Technological Diffusion for Innovation and represents Yamaha’s first long-term strategic partnership with a public institution that fosters innovation. According to the company, the objective is to make production more efficient, reduce energy consumption, increase productivity and increase the competitiveness of the Brazilian operation.

The project was structured by Yamaha Motor da Amazônia Ltda. and Yamaha Motor Componentes da Amazônia Ltda., responsible for the manufacture of motorcycles and components produced in Manaus to supply the national market and exports.

Robots, digitalization and more efficiency

Although the contract with Finep has a duration of seven years, investments have been underway since 2025 and should be completed in 2026. Of the R$ 15 million planned, R$ 12 million have already been released, while the rest will be transferred throughout the second half of the year.

Among the changes is the adoption of electronic tools for traceability of parts and digital control of production, in addition to the updating of machining centers used in the manufacture of components. The expectation is to reduce failures, increase the precision of processes and improve the final quality of products.

One of the highlights of the investment package is the installation of a robotic cell for welding the fuel tanks of motorcycles. In addition to making the process more standardized, the technology reduces the exposure of employees to repetitive activities and can reduce electricity consumption by up to 50% compared to current methods.

Another front provides for the standardization of production cycles, which should reduce the operational time of the assembly lines by about 10% and give more flexibility to meet variations in demand.

Tire assembly will be automated

Yamaha is also implementing an automated system for mounting tires, a technology that, according to the manufacturer, will be unprecedented in the Brazilian motorcycle industry. The expectation is to reduce the time spent at this stage of production by up to 30%.

In addition to the equipment, the investment also includes the training of employees to operate the new technologies implemented at the Manaus unit.

According to Rafael Lourenço, Yamaha’s Institutional Relations manager, the projects follow governance and technical monitoring criteria established by Finep and should strengthen the company’s technological capacity in Brazil, in addition to contributing to the industrial development of the region.
