India’s TVS announced its arrival in the Brazilian market in mid-2024, but, so far, practically nothing had been presented by the brand. Now, the manufacturer has registered the industrial design of its new NTorq 150 scooter with the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), thus guaranteeing rights to the model in the country.

The information was revealed firsthand by Jornal do Carro and is at least part of a strategy by the brand to protect this new product launched internationally in 2025.

The publication of the registration took place on June 30, 2026, after an application filed in September 2025. Although the procedure is an important step to protect the manufacturer’s intellectual property, it does not represent authorization for sale nor does it mean that the scooter will be marketed in Brazil.

The move comes about two years after TVS announced that it would operate independently in the country.

In March 2024, the company ended its partnership with Dafra, which has been responsible for selling models such as the Apache RTR 200 since 2010. Shortly after, the manufacturer put its official Brazilian website online and confirmed its intention to come “in person” to Brazil.

Since then, however, few concrete advances have been announced. Currently, the only motorcycle of the brand in circulation in Brazil is the Sport 110i, used exclusively by Mottu in its rental service for the end consumer.

Registration protects the design

The registration granted by the BPTO guarantees TVS the rights to the design of NTorq 150 in Brazilian territory during the period provided for by law. This type of protection is common among manufacturers in the automotive sector and aims to prevent copying or unauthorized use of the design in strategic markets.

In practice, several automakers register projects in different countries even without immediate plans for commercialization, which may mean that the TVS NTorq 150 never actually comes to Brazil.

So far, TVS has not confirmed the arrival of the NTorq 150 in Brazil, either through its own operation or through the partnership with Mottu.

Launched in India in September 2025, the NTorq 150 occupies the sports scooter segment and is equipped with a 149.7 cm³, three-valve single-cylinder engine, O3C Tech technology and electronic injection.

According to the manufacturer, the engine delivers 13,2 hp of power at 7,000 rpm and 1,45 kgfm of torque at 5,500 rpm. The set has electric start by an intelligent ISG system and, according to official data, accelerates from 0 to 60 km/h in 6.3 seconds.

In the Indian market, the model is sold for values starting at 111,350 rupees, equivalent to just over R$ 6 thousand in direct conversion, without considering taxes, freight, nationalization and other costs.

Future still undefined

As much as the protection of the industrial design of the NTorq 150 may demonstrate that TVS intends to start direct marketing in Brazil, nothing is guaranteed, since this may only be a strategy to guarantee the rights to the motorcycle, thus avoiding copies and fraud.
