Equipment used properly can reduce risks and minimize injuries during the work routine on two wheels
The increase in the Brazilian motorcycle fleet also culminates in the growth in the number of accidents. According to the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea), today 60% of hospitalizations for traffic accidents involve motorcyclists. For these and other factors, properly using safety equipment can be crucial for preserving the driver’s health, since the helmet, for example, can reduce the severity of a motorcycle accident by up to 70%.

The helmet is the only PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) mandatory according to the Brazilian Traffic Code, but the recommendation for the use of other equipment is always addressed by specialists.
For the Roxmotors driving instructor with more than 4,000 hours of riding and Brazilian competition titles, Pablo Berardi, it is practically necessary to cover the entire body to ride more safely when working on two wheels in the daily life of cities.
Like every motorcyclist, the delivery person must be equipped with a certified helmet, properly attached to the head, protective jackets and pants, as well as leather gloves and boots. Ideally, all of these items should be certified by the European Union, which guarantees proper protection. In addition, I strongly recommend reflective vests to be seen more easily in any condition.”
Berardi makes important points in his tips, since the equipment needs to be well adjusted. In the case of the helmet, it will be of no use if it is thrown because it is not attached to the motorcyclist’s chin. All must be certified, either by the EU or by Imetro.
In an interview with AutoPapo, in November 2025, the orthopedic doctor, Dr. Fhilipe Xavier, who is a specialist in traffic medicine, social security expert and president of the Brazilian Association of Traffic Medicine (Abramet) of Pernambuco, explained the importance of wearing appropriate footwear.
According to the expert, the foot is often the driver’s main contact with the ground in case of any abnormality in traffic and, to get out of the situation well, footwear that prevents crushing, pressing and offers thermal protection against burns due to temperature or friction is essential.

For the app motorcyclist, Melvin Alves, the boot is one of the main safety items for the motorcycle courier, in addition to others that cannot be dispensed with.
“In my opinion, the helmet, the antenna for the line, because it is already entering the vacation season. And also a good quality boot to work with, because the foot is essential and very easy to hurt.”

Igor Fernandes, also a delivery man, advises that the basics have to be working well and that it is also very important to protect the whole body during the work routine.
“First is the helmet. Around here [Belo Horizonte] it is not common for them to run without, but we cannot stop talking. And a good helmet! The knee brace is also essential. Clothing, in this case, jacket. A good jacket, a good pair of pants, a good shoe. The glove is also important. And be careful, because motorcycle traffic is even more complicated.”
