The name Burgman needs no introduction for those who follow the Brazilian two-wheeled market. The scooter, which was successful for years under the Suzuki banner, returned to the country at the hands of Haojue with the proposal of practicality and a pinch of technology. The result is a scooter that’s quite pleasant to ride, although it has a few points that could be more refined.

Right from the first few meters it is evident that the Burgman ADX 125 was designed for those looking for ease. The low seat inspires confidence, the ergonomics are welcoming and the riding position puts everything within reach. The CVT-type automatic transmission does the rest of the work, allowing the rider to just accelerate and brake. It is the type of motorcycle that eliminates most of the difficulties encountered by those who are getting their first license or want to abandon the car in urban commuting.

This feeling is reinforced by the chassis. The 12-inch front wheel represents an evolution in relation to the old Burgman marketed in Brazil and conveys greater stability, while the light set facilitates changes of direction and maneuvers in corridors and parking lots. In heavy traffic, the scooter proves to be extremely docile and predictable.

Under the seat is a 124.9 cm³, air-cooled single-cylinder engine, which delivers 9 hp of power and 1.02 kgfm of torque. The numbers are not impressive and make it complicated to ride on high-speed highways, but they are compatible with Burgman’s urban proposal.

However, this mechanical set has a behavior that clashes with the scooter’s comfort proposal. The single-cylinder transmits vibrations a little above average for the category, especially when working at higher revs. It doesn’t compromise driving, but it’s a noticeable detail for those who drive daily.

Another aspect that draws attention is the audible alert of the arrows. Whenever the turn signal is activated, a warning accompanies the operation. The idea is to increase safety and prevent the pilot from forgetting the turn signal on, but, in practice, the sound ends up being constant in urban traffic and can be annoying during routes with many turns.

If the engine is not surprising, the equipment package does just the opposite. Haojue has put items normally found on scooters in higher categories in the Burgman ADX. The model offers ABS brakes on the front wheel, traction control with the possibility of shutting down, keyless key, parking brake, color TFT panel, full LED lighting, USB port and even delivers a rear trunk as standard, something that many competitors charge as an accessory.

In practice, this equipment makes a difference. The face-to-face key eliminates the need to remove the key from your pocket, the dashboard is good readable, and the traction control adds an extra layer of security on slippery floors. The trunk, on the other hand, expands the transport capacity without requiring additional investment, an important feature for those who use the scooter daily.

The main obstacle of the Burgman ADX 125 is perhaps precisely its positioning in the market. With a suggested price of R$ 16.950, without considering shipping, it arrives costing more than some direct rivals, such as the Honda Elite that starts at R$ 14.400 and already has its loyal audience.

It is true that the new Burgman delivers a very complete technological package, but it faces extremely consolidated brands, especially Honda, which has a wide network of dealerships, a strong reputation in the aftermarket and high valuation in the used market.

In the end, Haojue managed to bring back an important name to the scooter segment without relying solely on nostalgia. The Burgman ADX 125 is easy to ride, conveys safety, offers an above-average equipment list and proves to be an excellent gateway to the world of motorcycles. On the other hand, the high price compared to the competition, the engine vibrations and the insistent audible alert of the arrows prevent the experience from being as refined as the rest of the set.

For those looking for a modern urban scooter, packed with equipment and extremely friendly to ride, the Burgman ADX 125 certainly deserves to be on the list of options. But those who prioritize cost-benefit and the strength of a traditional brand will probably also look carefully at the alternatives already established in the Brazilian market.
