A Volkswagen Polo hit the rear of a prototype Bugatti Tourbillon during tests in the Sierra Nevada in Spain. The video of the accident was posted on Instagram and the location was identified in the province of Granada.
In the images, the camouflaged hypercar travels behind a white Kia XCeed on a mountain road, with the Polo soon after. As they approach a temporary traffic light installed because of construction work, the Kia stops and the Tourbillon follows, but the Polo cannot. There is a brief screech of tires before the collision.
The video ends at the moment of impact, which prevents assessing the damage of the hypercar. Bugatti did not comment on the case. The consensus is that the damage tends to be cosmetic, but the rear of the Tourbillon is made up of highly sculpted carbon fiber parts, which make the solution very expensive.
difference The standard Bugatti Tourbillon starts at R$ 22.6 million (3.8 million euros) before taxes, according to the manufacturer. With the Polo Track, the entry-level version of the Brazilian line, at R$ 95.490, the value of a single hypercar is equivalent to about 237 compact hatches. The prototype, as a development car, has no defined market price, but it may have even greater technical value.
The Tourbillon uses a naturally aspirated 8.3-liter V16 engine developed with Cosworth, which delivers 1,000 hp at 9,000 rpm and 91,8 kgfm, plus three electric motors that add 800 hp, for a combined power of 1,800 hp. The battery has 25.4 kWh and the electrical architecture operates at 800 V. There will be 250 units produced in Molsheim, France, with deliveries starting this year.
A car of this size uses carbon-ceramic brakes and custom-developed tires, capable of dissipating speed over much shorter distances than those of a compact with steel discs and tires aimed at efficiency.

What Brazilian law
says In an equivalent situation in Brazil, the Brazilian Traffic Code determines, in article 29, that the driver must keep a safety distance from the front and side of the vehicle in front. In rear-end collisions, Brazilian jurisprudence usually presumes the fault of the person behind, and it is up to that driver to prove otherwise.
There is also a corporate detail in the meeting. The Volkswagen Group, which owns the Polo brand, controlled Bugatti for more than two decades and sold the company in 2021 to Bugatti Rimac, a joint venture between Porsche and Croatian Rimac.
