Volkswagen has taken another step in its offensive to reconquer the Chinese market by revealing the specifications of the ID. Aura T6, the electric medium SUV that has just been registered for sale in China and arrives larger than the largest SUV that Volkswagen sells today in Brazil, the Tiguan. Developed by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture , the model is exclusive to the Asian country for now and bets on advanced autonomous driving to try to contain the drop in sales of the brand in the country.

With 4.81 m long, 1.88 m wide, 1.65 m high and a wheelbase of 2.84 m, the ID. Aura T6 is only 6.5 cm shorter than the VW ID.6. Despite its size, the novelty adopts a configuration of only five seats and works, in practice, as a more spacious replacement for the ID.4 — a model 22.7 cm smaller than the new SUV.

The design follows Volkswagen’s new visual language in China, debuted by the ID. Era 9X: headlights integrated into the bumper, continuous light strip at the front, active air intake, semi-recessed door handles and a single taillight. The set runs on 19 or 20 inch rims.

The technological highlight is the LiDAR sensor on the roof, as part of the Carizon assisted driving package — a joint venture between the Volkswagen Group and Horizon Robotics. According to the brand, the system offers navigation on autopilot on highways and urban roads. The electronic architecture, in turn, was developed with Xpeng.

Under the bodywork, the T6 has a single electric motor on the rear axle, with 231 hp — 52 hp more than the ID.6 — and a top speed of 186 km/h. The battery is of the LFP type, supplied by Gotion, with a capacity not yet revealed. The declared weights suggest two battery options: the entry-level version has 2,026 kg in running order, while the one with the longest range reaches 2,126 kg.

The launch comes at a delicate time: in June 2026, Volkswagen delivered 102,840 vehicles in China, down 41.4% compared to the same month in 2025. Pressured by local manufacturers in electrification, the brand is trying to react by combining German engineering with software and assistance systems of Chinese origin.

Bigger than the Tiguan

For the Brazilian public, the closest reference in dimensions is the new Tiguan, which debuted here in May 2026. The SUV measures 4.70 m in length and 2.79 m in wheelbase: the T6 is about 11 cm longer and has a wheelbase 4.4 cm larger, which yields more interior space. Width (1.87 m) and height (1.69 m) are almost identical, and both take five occupants.

The differences are in the mechanics. While the T6 is 100% electric, the national Tiguan uses the 2.0 TSI turbo gasoline, with 272 hp and 35,7 kgfm, with an eight-speed automatic transmission and 4Motion all-wheel drive — a set that does 0 to 100 km/h in 7,4 seconds, according to the manufacturer.
