With 843 hp and 135 kgfm of torque, Hongqi's off-road accelerates like a super sports car and promises a combined range of up to 1,350 km
Hongqi, a Chinese manufacturer known for producing the official limousines of the country’s political elite — which has already transported Mao Zedong — presented the G919, a square-body off-road SUV that combines a vocation for off-road with super sports car performance. Unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show and now detailed in a new batch of images, the model should hit the market in the coming months, amid the race of Chinese brands for the segment of robust SUVs.

Criticized for its huge front grille, the G919 brings together respectful technical solutions to face difficult terrain. It measures 5.13 m long, 2.05 m wide and 1.95 m high, with a wheelbase of 2.90 m.
The model adopts the traditional body-on-chassis construction, which is essential for off-road durability. To handle the heavy work, it comes equipped with air suspension and three differential locks — front, center and rear — a mechanical arrangement similar to that of the Mercedes G-Class, a rival that the brand clearly targets.

The highlight is the powertrain, of the REEV type (electric with range extender). It combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with four electric motors, adding up to 843 hp of power and 135 kgf·m of torque.
With an electric motor on each wheel, all-wheel drive allows for precise torque adjustments to maintain grip on any terrain. Despite the high weight, the SUV accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds. For an adventure utility, the power borders on exaggeration, but reinforces the technological appeal of the project.
The battery capacity has not been revealed. Hongqi declares a range of 280 km in all-electric mode and a combined range of 1,350 km with the use of the fuel tank. Official prices have not yet been confirmed.
