Surgical dismantling included the removal of mechanical components and the entire luxury interior; see what is left of the R$ 1 million sports car
An example of the current generation Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (992) was the target of a theft with an unusual level of specialization in Los Angeles (USA). The vehicle was found on a public road reduced only to its metal chassis, after a surgical dismantling that removed almost all mechanical and finishing components.
The criminals removed the six-cylinder boxer engine and the dual-clutch transmission (PDK), in addition to the entire suspension and brake assembly. Body elements, such as doors, hood, fenders and even the complex mechanism of the retractable roof, were also subtracted, turning the sports car into an empty structure.

The interior of the vehicle was also completely stolen. Seats, steering wheel, instrument panel, center console and airbags were removed, leaving only hanging wiring harnesses. Experts point out that the choice to abandon the chassis is strategic: as this is the only part that bears the vehicle identification number (VIN), thieves get rid of the traceable part and keep the individual components, which have high liquidity in the parallel market and difficult tracking.

Although the metal structure looks intact, the Porsche was obviously considered a total loss. This is because the replacement cost of each original part, added to the specialized labor to rebuild the car from scratch, exceeds the market value of a new unit at a dealership. The probable destination of the carcass, after the expertise of the Los Angeles police and the procedure with the insurance company, will be destruction, since the chassis no longer has commercial utility without its original mechanical assembly.
