Tesla has confirmed that it will present the European version of the Semi electric truck at the IAA Transportation, the world’s leading commercial vehicle show, which takes place from September 15 to 20 in Hannover, Germany. The announcement was made by the company itself on the social network X, with the promise of disclosing the specifications and the launch plan of the model on the continent at the event.

The company did not advance autonomy, price or start date of sales in Europe. The confirmation ends a years-long uncertainty: Tesla had already taken a Semi to the same show in 2024, but did not give any information about the truck’s arrival on the European market at the time.

The American

Model NumbersIn the United States, the Semi is sold in two versions, both with the same set of three rear motors that add up to 1,088 hp. The Standard Range has a 548 kWh battery and a range of 523 km. The Long Range features an extended rear section of the cabin to accommodate additional batteries, reaches 822 kWh and reaches about 805 km at full charge.

The 1,000-volt electrical architecture allows recharging of up to 1,200 kW at the Megacharger. According to Tesla, this power returns most of the autonomy around 30 minutes. The truck is homologated in the United States for a combined gross vehicle weight of 37.2 tons.

It is not yet confirmed whether the two configurations will be offered in Europe. In the UK, Tesla’s website currently only displays the Standard Range version data. Volume production is being ramped up at the Semi plant near Gigafactory Nevada, and the automaker this month hired a business development manager for sales of the model in France.

What Tesla will face in Europe

Adaptation is not just about crossing the Atlantic. The European Union imposes strict limits on total length, axle load and turning radius, and the norm on the continent is the cabin over the engine, not the elongated hood of the American design. Recent directives have opened up dimensional clearance for aerodynamic electric tractors, but Tesla has yet to detail how it resolved the issue.

The local competition already operates in series. The MAN eTGX delivers from 332 hp to 544 hp, runs up to 570 km in the tractor configuration and accepts recharging of up to 750 kW by the MCS standard. The Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 has a 621 kWh battery, a range of 500 km and an electric axle with 544 continuous hp and 816 peak hp, with megawatt recharging in the testing phase.
