The alliance between Renault and Geely detailed the renewal schedule of its product line in Brazil, with the launch of the Renault Boreal hybrid in 2027 as a central point, according to Autoesporte magazine. The model will mark the debut of e-4WD all-wheel drive technology — a system that uses an independent electric motor on the rear axle, eliminating the use of a cardan.

The Boreal’s mechanical assembly combines the 1.3 TCe turbo flex engine with 163 hp and 27,5 kgfm of torque — coupled to a six-speed dual-clutch automated transmission — with an additional electric powertrain. This secondary engine delivers 31 hp and 8.9 kgfm directly to the rear wheels, bringing the combined power of the system to around 180 hp. Unlike conventional mild hybrids, the architecture allows the vehicle to operate in 4×2 front, rear or integral modes on demand.

Energy efficiency is one of the pillars of the project: equipped with a 0.84 kWh battery, the Boreal will be able to run in purely electric mode up to 60% of the time on urban routes, optimizing fuel consumption. The electrification strategy also includes the Niagara intermediate pickup. The utility, which shares the technical basis with the SUV, hits stores in 2027 initially with a thermal engine, according to Autoesporte, while the e-4WD hybrid variant is scheduled for 2028.

The partnership’s industrial plan provides for the nationalization of platforms in the São José dos Pinhais complex (PR), starting with the Geely GEA base in 2026. The schedule includes the arrival of models such as the Geely EX5 and the update of consolidated products, such as the Kwid, consolidating the brand’s transition to cleaner energy matrices.

Renault/Geely launch calendar

Year National launches planned
2026 Debut of the Geely GEA platform; Geely EX5 (plug-in hybrid), EX5 EM-i and EX2 models; Renault Koleos and Kwid renewal.
2027 Start of the new electrified Renault platform; launch of the Boreal MHEV e-4WD and the Niagara pickup.
