Renault has expanded the offer of the Boreal to four versions in Move Brasil – Taxi and Apps, after the federal government raised the ceiling of vehicles financeable by the program from R$ 150 thousand to R$ 200 thousand. The medium SUV, which previously participated only with the entry configuration and only for taxi drivers, now also serves drivers of digital platforms.
For taxi drivers, the Techno versions, at R$ 147,674, and Iconic, at R$ 158,480, enter the program. The Evolution, which was already part of the initiative, is still available for R$ 131,825. For app drivers, Renault offers the Evolution at R$ 167,990 and the Techno at R$ 189,990. Kwid, Kardian and Duster are also on the brand’s list.
Why the same car costs R$ 36 thousand less for the taxi driver
The price difference between the two profiles draws attention: the Boreal Evolution is R$ 36.165 cheaper for the taxi driver. The explanation lies in the benefits, which are not the same.
The taxi driver is entitled to IPI and ICMS exemption on the purchase of a new vehicle, which lowers the value of the invoice. The app driver does not have access to these exemptions and only has the program’s subsidized interest rate — 0.99% per month for men and 0.91% per month for women, below the market rate.
The entry criteria also differ. The taxi driver needs an active license, CNH with EAR observation and an IPI exemption request registered with the Federal Revenue Service in the last two years. The app driver, on the other hand, must prove active registration for at least 12 months on the same platform and at least 100 rides in the period.
New ceiling attracted competition
The expansion was made official by a joint ordinance of the Ministries of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services and Finance, published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette on August 19. In addition to the ceiling, the rule now accepts more hybrid configurations, including combinations of electric motor with ethanol, gasoline or flex propulsion.
With the change, the government estimates that the price criterion will reach about 88% of the Brazilian car market, compared to approximately 63% before – which opened the program to SUVs, pickup trucks and electrified vehicles. The list of eligible vehicles already brings together more than 170 model and version combinations.
Renault is not alone in the movement. BYD had King, Song Pro, Song Pro Flex and Atto 2 approved; GM asked for the inclusion of the Captiva EV, from R$ 199.990; and Honda requested the Advance and Touring versions of the HR-V. Move Brasil foresees up to R$ 30 billion in credit, although the government itself recognizes that the adhesion was lower than expected and is studying ways to attract more private banks.
To participate, the driver accesses the program platform with a gov.br account and authorizes the eligibility analysis, with validation within five business days. Approved, he looks for one of the accredited financial institutions for credit analysis and hiring.
