Opel has made official the launch of the Corsa GSE 2027, the sports variant that marks the definitive transition from the compact — an old acquaintance of Brazilians — to electric propulsion. Positioned as a direct successor to the GSI and OPC lineages, the new model debuts as the most powerful Corsa ever manufactured in series, delivering 278 hp. The public presentation is scheduled for October, during the Paris Motor Show, with the first deliveries scheduled for the end of 2026.

The development of the hatch was surrounded by expectations after prototypes were spotted in durability and performance tests at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany. The project shares the modular architecture with the Peugeot e-208 GTI, allowing the use of a mechanical assembly focused on high performance, but adapted to the sustainability requirements of the European market.

The Corsa GSE uses front-wheel drive and delivers 278 hp and 35,2 kgfm. According to data from the manufacturer, the hatch is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.5 seconds, with a top speed electronically limited to 180 km/h to preserve the integrity of the electrical components. To optimise range, the system reduces output to 231 hp when operated in normal driving mode.

Dynamic preparation includes designer items aimed at technical purism. The model is equipped with a Torsen self-locking differential, suspension with firm calibration and four-piston Alcon brakes. The 18″ wheels use Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, ensuring greater grip in curves. Power is provided by a 54 kWh battery (51 kWh usable), compatible with fast charging systems.

Visually, the GSE (Grand Sport electric) line introduces exclusive elements that differentiate the sports car from conventional versions, both in external aerodynamics and interior finish.
