Porsche ends production of combustion Macan in July and will be without a successor until 2028

Porsche will end production of the combustion Macan, the German brand’s entry-level SUV, in July and will not have a gasoline-powered replacement for at least two years. In a recent press conference to deal with sales, reported Carscoops, the manufacturer stated that the last unit will leave the Leipzig plant in Germany later this month, and the name Macan will only designate the 100% electric version.
The decision is surprising because the combustion version was still sold more than the electric one. In the first half of 2026, Porsche delivered 35,315 Macans worldwide, of which 19,695 were combustion engines and 15,620 were electric. Compared to the same period in 2025, the model fell 22%. The company attributes the decline to a strong basis of comparison in 2025, the lack of tax incentives for hybrids and electrics in the United States, and a slower-than-expected adoption of electromobility.
The brand admits to having misread the market and has already approved a successor with combustion and hybrid options, built on the Audi Q5 platform. The debut, however, should not take place before 2028, and the car will have another name.

In Brazil, the Macan is still on sale on two fronts. The combustion line brings together the base, T, S and GTS versions, with engines from 265 hp to 440 hp and should be offered until stocks last. Meanwhile, the electric range is made up of the Macan 4, 4S and GTS, the latter top of the line with up to 639 hp. Prices start at around R$ 530 thousand in the gasoline model and exceed R$ 800 thousand in the higher performance electric version, according to Porsche’s own table.
The SUV has been sold in the country since the first generation, in the middle of the last decade, and has always been among the brand’s highest volume models here. Electrification arrived in November 2024, with the second generation: the electric Macan was the first Porsche designed to leave aside the combustion engine and uses the Volkswagen Group’s PPE platform, shared with the Audi Q6 e-tron, with a 100 kWh battery.
In 2026, trade performance follows the global downturn. In May, the Macan totaled 76 registrations in the country, according to a survey of the premium segment, while Porsche delivered 710 units of its entire line in the first two months of the year, according to Fenabrave.
