Huawei presented at the 2026 Beijing Motor Show the new generation of XPixel technology, a system that transforms the vehicle’s headlights into projectors capable of displaying images, videos, and interactive content in color. It is the first time that the solution achieves color projection.

With one million pixels per headlight and a color range of up to 125% of the standard high-definition TV, the set projects an image of up to 100 inches on a nearby wall, which transforms a parked electric car into a kind of open-air cinema. The playback of movies, games and videos is part of the vehicle’s own entertainment system. Previous solutions, such as those from Mercedes-Benz, were monochromatic and focused only on driving.

The functions go beyond leisure. In motion, the headlights project arrows and guidance lines onto the asphalt to assist in navigation. With the car stationary, they create interactive elements on the ground, such as games and animations.

In the field of safety, the system illuminates pedestrian crossings, reinforces lane markings and displays speed limits in low-visibility conditions such as rain and fog. The technology also adjusts the color temperature to improve light penetration and adapts the beam so as not to dazzle those coming from the opposite direction.

The colorful version will debut in a future generation of the Aito M9, an electric SUV with advanced driving assistance features that Huawei has been developing since 2023 and sells in China through the HIMA alliance. Monochrome versions already equip models such as the Stelato S9, and the feature should also reach the Qijing GT7 and the Luxeed V9. Serial production is scheduled for August 30. The company did not disclose a price, as it supplies the component to automakers, not to the end consumer.
