BMW has taken another step towards the electrification of its sports division by unveiling the M Concept Neue Klasse during the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The prototype serves as a preview of the future electric M3, expected to hit the market in 2027, and shows what the first all-electric model developed by the M division since its inception will look like.

Although the brand already sells high-performance electric vehicles, such as the BMW i4 M50, the new concept represents a step change by anticipating an M model designed from the beginning to be electric.

Based on the new BMW i3 on the Neue Klasse platform, the concept adopts flared fenders, V-shaped air intakes on the hood, an enlarged front splitter and a large rear diffuser. The aerodynamic components are produced with natural fiber composites, reflecting the brand’s strategy to reduce the use of carbon fiber.

The interior follows the same design as BMW’s new electric cars, but incorporates sporty elements exclusive to the M division, such as seats with a more aggressive profile, nubuck leather trim and a steering wheel with the traditional red buttons for selecting driving modes.

The automaker has not yet released power or performance figures, but confirmed that the concept uses four electric motors, one on each wheel. The configuration ensures all-wheel drive and can offer different torque distribution strategies to maximize dynamic performance.

Another highlight is the new generation battery, with a net capacity of more than 100 kWh. Developed specifically for future electric M models, it is designed to provide continuous power delivery even in extreme use. The set is complemented by an 800-volt electrical architecture, which will allow ultra-fast recharges and will accompany the new generation of vehicles on the Neue Klasse platform.
