Electric SUV sold in Brazil jumped from 218 hp to 333 hp, adopted urban autopilot and abandoned recessed door handles
The Geely EX5 electric SUV, sold in the Chinese market as the Galaxy E5, has undergone a technical and visual renovation in its country of origin. The update comes amid the good commercial moment of the model, which sold 24,150 units between January and May 2026. The new configuration gains more power, advanced assistance features and aesthetic changes that anticipate safety requirements.

The most significant change is in the mechanical architecture of the utility. The model abandoned the 218 hp front engine and drive and adopted a single unit on the rear axle with 333 hp. With the power gain, the top speed rose from 175 km/h to 201 km/h. The migration to rear-wheel drive can still make room for a front trunk, the frunk, a solution already used by Geely in the EX2 hatch.

In semi-autonomous driving, the SUV received a LiDAR sensor on the roof, integrated with the G-ASD G-Pilot H5 system. Supported by cameras on the front fenders and a camera on the rear spoiler, the package offers the autopilot navigation function (NOA) for cities and highways.
Visually, the EX5 adopted a more defined front bumper, with an active air intake, and changed the charging port to the rear side. The most curious change, however, was the exchange of recessed retractable door handles for conventional models. Geely made the adjustment to comply with a Chinese law that comes into force in 2027 and bans recessed door handles, in order to facilitate rescues in accidents.
The new bumpers have increased the length of the car by 2.1 cm, which reaches 4.63 m. The other measurements are 1.92 m wide, 1.67 m high and 2.75 m wheelbase. There is still no forecast of when the updates will reach the export models aimed at Brazil.
