The new Hyundai i20 arrives in six versions and prices starting at R$ 99.990 to position itself between the HB20 and the Creta and compete with the entry-level SUVs. However, the brand does not use the term SUV to describe the model, despite being aligned with Fiat Pulse, Renault Kardian, Chevrolet Sonic and Volkswagen Tera.

The i20 debuts a new platform and only shares the engines with the HB20, which remains in line. The novelty will be sold in six versions:

Version Engine Price
Hyundai i20 Comfort AT 1.0 R$ 99.990
Hyundai i20 Limited MT 1.0 R$ 104.990
Hyundai i20 Limited AT 1.0 turbo R$ 125.990
Hyundai i20 X Line AT 1.0 turbo R$ 128.990
Hyundai i20 Platinum AT 1.0 turbo R$ 134.990
Hyundai i20 Ultimate AT 1.0 turbo R$ 139.990

Hyundai developed the new i20 with a focus on Brazil and launched the model first here. It also advances the style of the brand’s next cars, bringing a new visual identity called “Art of Steel”.

Beauty is subjective and we know that the public’s opinion will be divided. But one thing is certain: it was not this time that Hyundai chose to play it safe, the i20 follows the choice of bold and original lines that the brand applies to other cars like the Kona.

The new i20 also arrives with an unprecedented platform and more generous measures. The 4.13 m long, 1.78 m wide, 1.50 m high and 2.58 m wheelbase resolve the old criticism of the HB20’s interior space.

The trunk also grew to 346 liters, the largest among hatches and similar to that of some entry-level SUVs. Speaking of segmentation, Hyundai does not call the i20 an SUV in its official material, but places it as an intermediary between this body and a hatch.

Engines of Hyundai i20

The entry-level versions of the Hyundai i20 use the 1.0-liter naturally aspirated three-cylinder engine, which has been used since the first HB20. It yields 80 hp with ethanol and 75 hp with gasoline, the torque is 10,2 kgfm (E) and 9,6 kgfm (G). The transmission is a six-speed manual.

The 1.0 turbo has not changed either, but it has received a different calibration to meet the Federal Government’s Sustainable Cars program. The power with ethanol drops from 120 to 115 hp, with gasoline the value is the same. The torque of 17,5 kgfm was not changed, as well as the 6-speed automatic transmission.

For now, only the consumption of the 1.0 turbo engine has been disclosed: 8.8 km/l in the city and 10.1 km/l on the highway with ethanol. In gasoline it does 12,6 km/l in the city and 14,3 km/l on the highway.

Equipment

The interior of the Hyundai i20 draws attention visually, the Ultimate model is finished in two shades of gray and the dashboard has the instrument panel joined to the multimedia center. The air conditioning controls are vertically bordered by the ventilation outlets.

But up close the materials are just hard plastics, both on the dashboard and on the doors. There is not even a soft portion on the handle, the synthetic coating only covers the steering wheel, the seats and the central armrest.

The simplicity in materials contrasts with the vast package of technology present in the model. The top-of-the-line version features an electronic parking brake, a complete ADAS package, the ability to receive remote updates, six airbags, parking sensor, reversing camera, tire pressure monitor and face-to-face key.

The ADAS package is the most comprehensive in the segment, it features adaptive cruise control with stop and go, rear cross traffic assistant, lane keeping assistant with centralization, fatigue detector, autonomous emergency braking, safe exit alert, blind spot monitor and automatic high beam.

All these features only come in the Ultimate model, versions below have fewer ADAS features and lose the electronic parking brake.

The i20 is sold in Onix Black, Atlas White, Shadow Gray, Sand Silver, Brisk Silver, Silk Gray, Sapphire Blue and the new Lumina Gray. The warranty is 5 years with no mileage limit.
