Nissan has updated the Sentra for the 2027 lineup in the United States with an unusual change for so soon: the recalibration of the CVT automatic transmission, made at the request of the customers themselves. The medium sedan also gains the Midnight Edition visual package and induction cell phone charger in the Qi2 standard, with prices starting at R$ 125 thousand (24.135 dollars).

According to the automaker, the new transmission programming promises smoother operation, more linear acceleration and firmer response to the touch of the accelerator. The adjustment draws attention for the moment: the ninth generation of the Sentra debuted only in the 2026 model year, and gearbox revisions usually expect mid-cycle restyling.

Under the hood, nothing has changed. The aspirated 2.0-liter engine continues with 151 hp, with no electrified variant in sight to face Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, which already offer hybrid versions in the American market. In the most economical configuration, the Sentra does 12,8 km/l in the city and 16,2 km/l on the highway.

Midnight Edition and faster charger

Exclusive to the SR version, the Midnight Edition package costs R$ 3.360 (650 dollars) and brings together 18″ alloy wheels of specific design, two-color bodywork, darkened exterior appliqués and black rear spoiler . It is a purely aesthetic item, with no change in suspension or engine.

The Qi2 induction charger, on the other hand, brings wider compatibility and faster recharging than the previous system. It comes standard on SR and SL versions and is optional on SV.

The adjustments in the table are modest and unequal. The S entry rose $290 and the SV, $220. The SR was 10 dollars cheaper, and the top-of-the-line SL maintained the price of the previous year. All values include the mandatory shipping rate charged in the United States.

None of this reaches Brazil

The update has no practical effect on the Brazilian consumer. Nissan ended importing the Sentra in July, when it confirmed the end of the sedan’s sale in the country. The last units coming from Mexico remain in dealerships until they run out of stock, and there is no successor announced.

Commercial performance explains the decision. The Sentra sold 341 units in the first half of 2026, according to Fenabrave, against 13,021 for the Corolla and 8,196 for the BYD King, the two main direct rivals. In June, there were only nine registrations in the entire national territory.

Here, the model sold was the previous generation, which landed in 2023 in the Advance and Exclusive Premium versions and never received the visual and content changes applied abroad. The 151 hp 2.0 engine and CVT gearbox were the same, without the recalibration now announced for the American market.
