Mitsubishi has put the new Eclipse Cross Black 2027 on sale, which arrives as a top-of-the-line version of the medium SUV for R$ 224.990. The launch comes in the wake of the cuts campaign announced by the brand in early June, which repositioned the entire range in the country to react to the advance of Chinese rivals. The manufacturer presents the action as part of a commercial plan linked to its 35 years of operation in Brazil.

Although the automaker announces reductions of “up to R$ 55 thousand” in its lineup, this maximum cut applies to the Outlander PHEV, which fell from R$ 379.990 to R$ 324.990. In the Eclipse Cross, the low reached R$ 17 thousand: the entry-level Rush version went to R$ 159.990, which makes the model the cheapest Mitsubishi for sale in the country. During June, the brand also offers bonuses ranging from R$ 5 thousand to R$ 29 thousand in the exchange of a used one for a zero-kilometer, in addition to an additional of up to R$ 3 thousand for those who already have a vehicle of the brand.

The Black repeats the HPE-S 4×4 equipment list and differentiates itself by its darker look. There are two body colors — London Gray, in a glossy tone, and Concrete Gray, more matte —, combined with a black roof, 19-inch diamond wheels with darkened varnish, side skirts and front and rear skid plates in glossy black, in addition to gold details on the front grille and the “Black” signature applied to the doors.

Alongside the HPE-S, the Black is one of the two configurations of the S-AWC all-wheel drive line, a feature that Mitsubishi presents as a differential compared to direct competitors. The mechanical set is the same as the entire range: 1.5 turbo gasoline engine (4B40 MIVEC family), with 165 hp and 25,5 kgfm of torque, associated with a CVT-type automatic transmission, with eight simulated gears and butterflies behind the steering wheel for manual changes.

In the cabin, the SUV maintains the 12.3″ multimedia center with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Waze via Wi-Fi and offline GPS. The list also includes dual-zone digital air conditioning, heated front seats, induction charger with cooling and JBL sound system with subwoofer and amplifier. The seats are covered in premium black material, with gray suede stitching and applications.

The MiTEC assistance package brings together autonomous emergency braking, blind spot alert, lane departure warning, adaptive pilot and seven airbags — items offered from the HPE-S version.

Reaction to Chinese competition

The price offensive exposes the most challenging moment of the Eclipse Cross, which has seen competition increase significantly since the invasion of Chinese brands from Brazil. In May, the SUV sold 526 units, against more than 1,643 Omoda 5 and 1,391 for the Jaecoo 7, for example. In the same price range, hybrids such as BYD Song Pro, GWM Haval H6 HEV and Jetour S06 compete for the consumer’s choice, which deliver electrified mechanics.

To compensate, the Eclipse Cross 2027 line maintains a five-year warranty, fixed-price overhaul and guaranteed buyback, and is available on Mitsubishi’s national network, spread across the five regions of the country.
