Canadian rapper Drake is the artist who most helps drivers stay focused behind the wheel, according to a study conducted by the British platform AutoTrader. The research evaluated the impact of popular musicians on the perception of traffic risks, revealing that contemporary genres can, in fact, reduce reaction time in situations of imminent danger.

The methodology used risk perception tests similar to those applied to obtain a driver’s license in the United Kingdom. Participants had to identify and react to dangers in videos while listening to playlists composed of 20 of the most listened to artists in 2024. Performance was converted to a score from 0 to 75, where higher scores indicate more agile reflexes.

Drake topped the rankings with an average of 59.5 points, followed closely by Ariana Grande and Eminem, both with 58.5. The study suggests that the rhythm and structure of these compositions can keep the brain in a state of alert ideal for urban and highway driving.

Ranking Artist Scoring
1st 59.5
2nd Ariana Grande 58.5
3rd Eminem 58.5
4th Billie Eilish 57
5th BTS 56.5
6th The Weeknd 56.5
7th Beyoncé 55.5
8th Foo Fighters 55
9th Harry Styles 54.5
10° The 1975 54

On the other hand, some traditional and contemporary artists presented results below expectations. Bach’s classical music, often associated with relaxation, scored only 42.5 points, while rapper Megan Thee Stallion recorded the lowest average (37.5). To be considered “pass” the safety test, the artist would need to induce a minimum score of 44 points.

Although the study reinforces that it is safe to listen to music while driving, experts recommend caution. To ensure safety, it is recommended to keep the volume at levels that allow you to hear external sounds, avoid the use of headphones and not manipulate the sound system or streaming applications with the vehicle in motion.
