Kia Sorento is R$ 55 thousand cheaper six months after launch

Kia lowered the price of the Sorento for the second time in less than three months. The seven-seater turbodiesel SUV, which hit stores in January for R$ 399.990, now costs R$ 344.990 – R$ 55 thousand below the starting price, without any change of engine, version or equipment.

The first cut came in May, when the brand announced a promotional launch campaign and dropped the price by R$ 40 thousand, to R$ 359.990. Now comes the second, at R$ 15 thousand, which should be the new official price of the vehicle — not just a limited offer.

The explanation may lie in the registrations: between February and April, the SUV registered only 32 units licensed in the country, a volume that kept it out of the top 40 best-selling SUVs, according to data from Fenabrave. Year-to-date, the leader of the seven-seater segment, Toyota SW4, already had 4,469 units, and the GWM Haval H9, 3,646.

The new price changes Sorento’s opponent. At R$ 399.990, he was vying for the buyer of the Toyota SW4, whose entry-level version exceeds R$ 424 thousand, and the Chevrolet Trailblazer, from R$ 422 thousand. At R$ 344.990, it touches the GWM Haval H9, sold in a single version for R$ 335 thousand and the model that grew the most in the segment this year.

There is a structural difference that weighs on the decision: the three rivals use body-on-chassis, a traditional architecture of SUVs with an off-road vocation, while the Sorento is a monocoque, with independent suspension on all four wheels — a set aimed at comfort on the asphalt. With the departure of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, which failed the Proconve L8, it became the only diesel monocoque option in the category.

What the SUV delivers

The single EX version features the 2.2 turbodiesel Smartstream engine, with 194 hp at 3.800 rpm and 45 kgfm between 1.750 and 2.750 rpm, eight-speed dual-clutch automated transmission and AWD all-wheel drive, in addition to modes for snow, mud and sand.

The Sorento is 4.81 m long and has a wheelbase of 2.81 m, about 6 cm longer than the SW4. The trunk goes from 179 liters with the three rows occupied to 608 liters in the five-seat configuration, reaching 1,996 liters with everything folded down. As standard, 19-inch wheels, two 12.3-inch screens, 360° cameras and six airbags.

The discount comes amid the reorganization of the brand in the country. This is because Kia’s parent company is negotiating to take over the Brazilian operation from 2027, ending 34 years of partnership with the Gandini Group. The importer confirmed the talks, but said nothing had been decided.
