The brand began operations as a car manufacturer in 1997. In less than three decades, the brand has become one of the largest Chinese automakers. The brand’s growth rate has accelerated in recent years, driven mainly by exports.
Chery exports to more than 130 countries and regions. In the first half of 2026 alone, the group exported more than 940 thousand vehicles, following an expansion trend in the Mandarin industry.
Chery’s Story
The company’s trajectory also follows the evolution of the Chinese automotive industry. Founded in the city of Wuhu, Chery began its operations producing compact vehicles aimed at the domestic market. Over the years, it has expanded its lineup to include SUVs, sedans, plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, as well as creating new brands such as Exeed, Jetour, iCar, Omoda and Jaecoo, each aimed at different segments and markets.

In Brazil, the manufacturer maintains a presence through CAOA Chery, responsible for the local production of models such as Tiggo 5X, Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8, in addition to the sale of imported vehicles. The Brazilian market should also receive new global products developed by the company, following the brand’s offensive in electrification and driving assistance technologies.
The achievement of 20 million units comes at a time of strong expansion of the Chinese industry, which expands its participation in the main global markets through investments in electrified vehicles, dedicated platforms and export-oriented production. To understand what the volume corresponds to, Fiat completed 50 years of operations in Brazil, with 18 million cars produced in the Betim industrial hub. The Minas Gerais plant is one of the most productive of the group, responsible for supplying neighboring markets.
