Launched last week, the new Volkswagen Tiguan was an immediate success: in just 12 minutes of pre-sale in Brazil, the large SUV registered 3,316, according to the brand. As it is sold in a single version, at R$ 299,990, this would represent a historic turnover of R$ 994,776,840.00 for Volkswagen — practically R$ 1 billion.

The point is that, many times, there are buyers who give up on purchases. The pre-sale conditions of the new Tiguan include payment of a deposit to guarantee the car, but, until the time of billing, the customer can give up. “It’s something that happens with some frequency. There are people who guarantee the car to think, later, if they really want to buy it”, explained a VW shopkeeper to AutoPapo, under anonymity. Even so, the expectation is that the money raised will remain significant, given the immediate popularity obtained by the SUV in Brazil

Imported from Mexico, the model arrives in the R-Line configuration and consolidates its positioning at the top of the brand’s range, above the Taos. Built on the MQB Evo platform — the same as the eighth-generation Golf — the vehicle now follows global market standardization. With the change, the Tiguan abandons the seven-seat “All-Space” variant, a role that will be taken over in the future by the unprecedented Tayron SUV.

Under the hood, the SUV debuts with the 2.0 TSI engine with 272 hp and 36,4 kgfm, coupled to the eight-speed automatic transmission and the 4Motion all-wheel drive system. The mechanical set, identical to the one offered in the United States, allows the model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.4 seconds. In terms of efficiency, the reported consumption is 8.9 km/l in the city and 12.1 km/l on highways, always using gasoline.

The dimensions underwent specific adjustments: the length fell from 4.72 to 4.69 meters. Consequently, the trunk was reduced from 686 to 550 liters. However, subtle gains in width, height and wheelbase promise greater comfort to the occupants of the cabin, which now has a 15″ multimedia center and refined finish.
