BYD released the homologation data for the Denza Z, an electric super sports car that breaks with the brand’s line of minivans and crossovers . Aimed at driving pleasure, the model adopts a low posture, with a sloping hood and functional air intake, pronounced rear fenders, sports diffuser and diamond-shaped taillights. The official launch is scheduled for July, in the Chinese market, with a combined power of 1,604 hp.

Body versions, dimensions and aerodynamics

The Denza Z will have four seats and will arrive as standard in two bodies and three variants:

  • Convertible: canvas top, semi-hidden door handles and 20-inch wheels. It measures 4.78 m long, 1.99 m wide and 1.35 m high, with a wheelbase of 2.78 m. It weighs 2,290 kg, with a gross weight of 2,650 kg.
  • Hardtop roadster: blacked-out columns and roof and recessed door handles. It is 2 cm lower than the convertible, weighs 2,220 kg and reaches 300 km/h.
  • Roadster with a sports package: it gains more aggressive bumpers and a rear spoiler, which extends the length to 4.87 m. The aerodynamic load generated by the wing raises the top speed to 350 km/h.

Electric motors and track technology

Performance comes from a set of three electric motors: one front with 680 hp and two rear motors that add up to 925 hp, totaling 1,604 hp. For comparison, the new electric Mercedes-AMG GT has 1,169 hp and a top speed of 317 km/h. The Chinese’s energy comes from a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery of undisclosed capacity. According to previously released information, the Denza Z would accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds.

The technology package includes the DiPilot 5.0 driving assistance system, ultra-fast charging and the DiSus-M magnetorrheological active suspension. The launch comes amid the recovery of Denza, which delivered 15,620 units in the Chinese market in May, up 7.3% year-on-year and the first advance of the year for the brand.
