First electric Range Rover maintains its usual look, accelerates more than V8 and travels 535 km without stopping

With two motors and a 118.5 kWh battery, the electric surpasses the V8 in power and torque, but loses ground clearance

Range Rover presented the Range Rover Electric, the first all-electric model in the line in more than half a century of history. The luxury SUV maintains the proportions and design of the fifth generation launched in 2022, without visual elements that announce the change of engine, and delivers 550 hp and 86,7 kgfm — numbers that surpass those of the version with a V8 gasoline engine.

The brand justifies the delay: JLR had been selling electric cars since the 2018 Jaguar I-Pace — with the need to preserve the refinement and off-road capability required of a Range Rover. The two permanent magnet motors, one on each axle, yield 260 kW each and take the SUV’s 2.9 tons from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds, a tenth less than the V8.

All-wheel drive is managed by electronics, without center differential or locks: the system distributes torque between the axles according to the available grip. The model overcomes ramps of up to 45º and crosses flooded stretches of up to 90 cm. Ground clearance is 26.2 cm, about 3 cm lower than that of the V8, because of the rear-wheel drive unit.

118.5 kWh battery and recharge from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes

The energy comes from a lithium-ion battery with 118.5 kWh of useful capacity, made up of 344 prismatic cells, under 800-volt architecture. In direct current stations of up to 350 kW, recharging from 10% to 80% takes about 22 minutes, and ten minutes on can recover up to 220 kilometers, according to the manufacturer.

In alternating current, the car accepts up to 22 kW, with a full charge of around seven hours. The declared range is up to 600 kilometers in the WLTP cycle, with an estimated 535 kilometers in real use. Battery and propulsion system are guaranteed for eight years or 160 thousand kilometers.

The technological package includes remote diagnosis and remote software updates, in addition to the air suspension and the Terrain Response system already used in the other versions.

No expected arrival in Brazil

Produced in Solihull, UK, alongside the combustion and hybrid Range Rovers, the electric already has open orders in selected markets in HSE, Autobiography and SV configurations, with the first deliveries scheduled for 2027. In the United Kingdom, prices start at 154,070 pounds, about R$ 1.06 million at the current price. For Brazil, JLR did not inform a launch date: the national configurator remains restricted to the Autobiography versions, at R$ 1,773,950, and SV, at R$ 2,137,950, both with a combustion engine.

According to Martin Limpert, global general manager of Range Rover, about 80 thousand people registered to receive information about the model before the debut. Of this total, 70% were not customers of the brand and only 20% already had an electric car. The Electric does not replace the other powertrains: plug-in hybrids and V8 are still in the catalog, with no defined retirement date.
