Detran-RJ resumes free service for victims of traffic accidents and family members; find out how to participate

The Rio de Janeiro State Traffic Department (Detran-RJ) has reactivated the activities of the Support Center for Traffic Victims and Family Members (NAVI). The service, completely free of charge, is aimed at welcoming survivors of traffic accidents, family members and people bereaved by the loss of loved ones on the state’s public roads.

The resumption of the program aims to reinforce humanized assistance in traffic and expand the debate on the importance of ensuring continuous support for those who face the physical, emotional and social consequences of these events.

What services does NAVI offer?

NAVI’s main goal is to provide a safe space for listening and welcoming, helping in the emotional recovery and family reorganization of the participants. The program operates on three main fronts:

• Psychological Care: follow-up focused on overcoming trauma and the grieving process.
• Social Guidance: support with social workers for instruction on rights and necessary referrals.
• Support Groups: collective space for the exchange of experiences between people who have experienced similar situations.

In addition to direct assistance, the initiative seeks to raise awareness in society about the human impacts generated by traffic violence.

Integration with hospitals in the state network of Rio de Janeiro

To facilitate access to the service and speed up the referral of those who need support, social workers from the center will carry out periodic visits to health units. The proposal is to integrate NAVI with the multidisciplinary teams of state hospitals.

In this initial phase, the actions of presentation and articulation of the program take place at the Getúlio Vargas State Hospital and the Carlos Chagas State Hospital.

How to schedule the service at Detran-RJ?

The registration process is simple and can be done online:

1. Via Portal: Access the Education area on the official website of Detran-RJ and fill out the registration form.
2. Via E-mail: Send a message with the request to the address navi.educacao@detran.rj.gov.br.

After receiving the registration, the NAVI team contacts you to schedule the reception. The service shifts take place weekly on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
