Named Weekend Coast, the prototype uses Rolls-Royce-inspired solutions to transform a midsize SUV into a coastal leisure vehicle
Hayashi Telempu, Toyota’s traditional component supplier, presented a new accessory for the Toyota Corolla Cross aimed at leisure and which, curiously, resembles a characteristic brand of the most recent Rolls-Royce.
The main differential of the novelty is the installation of retractable seats and footrests located in the trunk area. The feature is a direct reference to the Rolls-Royce Cullinan’s “Viewing Suite”, allowing occupants to enjoy the landscape in superior comfort during stops at leisure venues. It is a relatively simple idea that adapts high-volume vehicles to experiences previously restricted to the ultra-luxury market.

Inside, the design of the Corolla Cross still adopts a marine theme, combining shades of blue and white with custom lighting and premium upholstery. The floor of the cargo area received a coating that refers to wooden decks, facilitating cleaning after use on beaches. Externally, the two-tone paint in light blue and white completes the visual identity, while the original hybrid mechanical assembly of the Japanese model has been preserved to ensure energy efficiency.
The Weekend Coast — an event in Japan where the news was announced — works as a technological showcase and real-time market research. Hayashi Telempu’s goal is to validate the public’s interest in integrated accessories that elevate vehicle status. Although the model is a prototype, the materials presented indicate new paths for the customization of SUVs, combining the urban functionality of the Corolla Cross with specific leisure demands.
