As a keen observer of the automotive industry, I am convinced that the industry’s most important transformation lies not in distant promises, but in a pragmatic breakthrough that is already happening before us. The search for cleaner and more conscious mobility is no longer a discourse to become a solid market strategy, and the signs of this change are everywhere.

In the Brazilian context, I believe that hybrid technology represents the smartest bridge to the future. The ability to combine an electric motor with a flex combustion engine, which uses our ethanol, is a tailor-made solution for our reality. This is not just a gamble, but a rational response to the infrastructure challenges and energy advantages we already have.

Electrified cars are no longer niche cars

This movement is no longer a niche trend, and the numbers are there to prove it. In 2025, global sales of electric vehicles reached about 20.7 million units, a growth of approximately 20% compared to the previous year, according to data from Benchmark Mineral Intelligence and Rho Motion.

More than a growth statistic, this advance consolidates a structural change in the automotive sector, indicating that electrification (including hybrids) has already established itself as a real and growing alternative for the consumer.

Naturally, the industry responds to this call. We see a significant movement of brands that previously observed from a distance. The announcement of investments by the Stellantis group in its Bio-Hybrid platforms is a clear example. This indicates that Fiat, a brand with strong popular appeal, is preparing to bring this technology to a wider audience, democratizing access to more efficient vehicles.

At the same time, the concept of sustainability has expanded beyond the engine. Today, it is an integral part of design. I have observed with optimism the increasing use of recycled materials in the composition of vehicles. The application of recovered plastics and other compounds of non-fossil origin in interior finishes shows that the circular economy has become a tool for innovation, adding value and awareness to the final product.

Electric motorcycles and scooters

This same logic of electrification is gaining more and more strength in the two-wheeled universe, an agile market by nature. Electric scooters and motorcycles emerge as a smart solution for mobility in large urban centers, offering individual transport that is both economical and free of direct emissions.

An interesting thermometer of this movement can be seen on the large digital platforms for buying and selling. A brief search is enough to notice the growing supply of electric motorcycles, both from private owners getting rid of their used models and from shopkeepers and dealerships already betting on a portfolio of new and used cars. To me, this indicates the formation of a healthy secondary market, a key step towards the consolidation of any automotive technology.

It’s also remarkable when we see giants and historic rivals, such as Honda and Yamaha, collaborating. The partnership between them to develop an ecosystem of shared batteries is an unmistakable sign of the maturity of this new market. This strategic union demonstrates that the larger goal is to accelerate the adoption of the technology, an effort that benefits the entire industry.

I conclude, therefore, that we are on the right track. The industry has found a consistent evolution route, exchanging grandiose promises for concrete and rational steps. The real revolution, in my view, is silent, gradual, and is already transforming the way we move.
